Obama:Candidate v. President
Do candidates do exactly as they say once they become president? Do you think he's lived up to expectations? Has he kept his promises since he took office in January?

I liked this article because it symbolizes the “typical” politician – empty promises. In the article, Obama says, "Too many times, after the election is over, and the confetti is swept away, all those promises fade from memory, and the lobbyists and the special interests move in, and people turn away, disappointed as before, left to struggle on their own," – isn’t this the truth! Not just with Obama, but almost all presidential candidates. Bush had a lot of agenda he wanted to take care of during his administration and September 11th really slowed down everything he had been planning to do for the country. Obama ran on the mantra of hope and change, and really had not delivered – yet? Of course, Obama may claim that the country was in more of an economic mess than “he thought”, but that’s no excuse. A good presidential candidate should hire people behind the scenes to investigate issues and determine the state of the nation before making promises to us Americans that may go left unfulfilled. I will give Obama some slack though, he’s only been in office for a few months now. He still has 3.5 years left to show us what he’s got. A lot of people are saying that Obama is still acting like he’s running for president and on the campaign trail. Of course, every president will experience unexpected events that may derail their own, promised, agenda. This whole Swine Flu panic may be an example of an unexpected issue that the Obama administration will have to put more energy into. As the article mentions, Americans either love Obama or hate him. Right now, it’s difficult to tell how he will fare as president… thoughts?
