Ten Reasons Why You Should Ignore Exit Polls
While I'm not a very big Sarah Palin fan (wait til you get there, you'll see), I couldn't help but come across this article with 10 reasons of why you ignore exit polls. Since I'm not a big fan of exit polls I agree with most of the reasons of why you should not take exit polls to heart.

I agree with the majority of the reasons presented as well, however I cannot think of a better method of studying voting behavior than exit polls. Pre-voting surveys are far less accurate.
ReplyDeleteI found this article to be very informative. For instance, I did not know that exit polls had such a great margin or error. The article states they have approx. a 50-90% greater margin of error than phone polls. I agree that the exit polls tend to favor Democrats. In 2000 we definitely saw this in Florida with Al Gore being called the supposed winner - we all know how that one turned out. I also found it interesting that exit polls in 2008 tended to attract more Dems. than Reps. - they explain the reasoning behind this to be because Dems. were more "enthusiastic" about this election because of Obama. A major flaw to exit polls is the fact the may miss "late" voters, as the article states. Often these polls are done mid-day and will neglect the fact that many people voter after work. Also intriguing is the fact the exit polls really don't do much because we will know the actual results within a matter of hours anyways - so why waste time and money performing this type of polling?
